Cher Is Suing Sonny Bono’s Widow For Withholding Royalties From Her Hit Songs
Cher has filed paperwork to sue Sonny Bono‘s widow, Mary, in Los Angeles.
The 75-year-old entertainer alleges that Mary, a former US Representative, has withheld royalties from Cher‘s hit songs with Sonny from the 1960s.
Deadline reports that Cher is accusing Mary of keeping her from her share of royalties on such hits as “I Got You Babe” and “The Beat Goes On.”
Cher is seeking $1 million in damages, according the suit that was filed this week.
Upon their divorce in 1975, Cher and Sonny had agreed to split the revenue rom the songs they recorded as a duo.
Mary is Sonny‘s fourth and final wife, and Cher says that she has “undone” Cher’s ownership of the rights and royalties, but doesn’t specify how that happened.
Sonny passed away in 1998 at the age of 63.
Just recently, Cher opened up about how she fell madly in love with this star.
