Sabah Will Be Getting Its Own Skytrain With The 1st Phase To Complete In 3 Years!

A few weeks back, 28 new stations for LRT in Ipoh had been proposed. As the country develops further, could we be getting more public transportation to ease the lives of the rakyat?

Just recently, Bung Mokhtar, member of parliament for Kinabatangan proposed “Jesselton New City” a mixed development project located in Sabah International Convention Centre.

Mokhtar is now proposing a Skytrain development that will link Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) to the city centre.

That’s right. Sabah may be getting its own rapid transit system!

According to The Borneo Post, Mokhtar believes that the multi-billion ringgit project will be a game-changer for Sabah economically.

“Upon completion, it will attract more visitors to Sabah,” he added.

The first phase of the Skytrain would span a distance of 10.5 km from the airport to the city centre which is expected to be built within 3 years at the cost of RM1 billion

Below is a list of the proposed stations, for the time being

• Kota Kinabalu Central
• Jalan Gaya
• Terminal New Jesselton City

The second phase which is expected to take an additional 3 years from Phase 1 and spanning over 15 km will run to the government administrative centres just outside the city to the University Malaysia Sabah and the nearby suburb, as reported by Berita Harian.

The second phase will be known as KKIA Express Line 2, with these stations proposed for now:

• Jesselton New City
• Kinabalu Tower
• Sabah Federal Administrative Centre
• Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS)
• Alammesra Commercial Centre

Mokhtar also revealed that the project will reference the Skytrain model from China.

“Soon, we will be visiting China, the factory and observe how they run the train,” he explained.
