New Local Airlines SKS Airways & MYAirline To Debut In 2022

One of the industries that have suffered a lot from the pandemic other than small local businesses is the tourism industry; which encompasses not only hotels and tourists spots, but also airlines.

Even big industries like the airlines are still struggling to recover from the devastating impact brought upon them. In order to cope with this, the Malaysian civil aviation industry regulator has brought in two new airlines into the industry.

The two airlines that have been approved as an air service license (ASL) are MYAirline Sdn Bhd (MYAirline), a recently established ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC); and SKS Airways Sdn Bhd (SKS Airways). The license holder of ASL will be allowed to conduct scheduled passenger and cargo services, just like Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia.

As of now, these two airlines are under conditional approval by the Malaysian Aviation Commission. For MYAirline, which was previously known as Z9 Elite Sdn Bhd, will have a valid license for 12 months; from January 2022, to December 2022. While for SKS Airways, their license will have a longer duration which is 36 months, or 3 years; starting from January 2022, until December 2024.

It was stated that MYAirlines was established not only to build an airline business but also to challenge the dominance of one of the low cost airlines in the whole wide world, Air Asia. While quoting the director of the Johor based airline, SKS Airways, “We at SKS Airways have been working hard during this period to introduce a new commercial airline that focuses on unserved and underserved routes destinations.
