Deng Lun Issues Apology Over Tax Evasion
Deng Lun (鄧倫) is facing cancellation after being found guilty of tax evasion. According to tax authorities, the 29-year-old actor made false declarations through bogus business accounts to cover up his income between 2019 and 2020. After being found guilty, he was slapped with 106 million Chinese yuan in fines.
Hoping to salvage his career, Deng Lun swiftly issued an apology on social media. In his statement, he wrote, “I accept all decisions of the tax authorities. I am willing to accept all responsibilities and consequences, and will continue to work hard. I am very sorry for taking up public resources during the pandemic.”
Spotted at the airport recently, fans noted his weary expression and slumped posture. With his career on the line and image deeply affected, many believe that he may be banned from the Chinese entertainment industry and follow in the footsteps of Fan Bingbing (范冰冰), whose career came to a complete stop after her tax evasion scandal.
Already, 21 brands that were endorsed by Deng Lun have already cancelled his contracts and were quick to cut ties with him. Fans are also worried that his new drama, Night Wanderer (夜旅人), who also stars Ni Ni (倪妮), may be shelved and not see an air date.
