TVB Forges New Partnership With Chinese Government-Owned Company

TVB has announced a new partnership with Bauhinia Culture Holdings Limited, a Chinese government-owned company. Signing a strategic cooperation agreement, TVB General Manager Eric Tsang (曾志偉) shared that they will be collaborating on dramas, variety shows, documentaries, and large-scale events from next year onwards.

“As the Miss Hong Kong pageant is coming up, we’ll be quite busy until the end of the year but we’ve been in constant communication about the upcoming projects. We’ll likely start with dramas or variety shows,” Eric stated.

Due to TVB’s experience in talent management, the station attracted Bauhinia Culture Holdings’ interest in the partnership. The company hopes to be able to discover artistes fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin, because the shows will be broadcast in Hong Kong, China, and internationally. They also plan to produce a reality show that will help recruit new talent, and further introduce current artistes to the public.

When reporters asked if bilingualism in Cantonese and Mandarin is a requirement, Eric confirmed that this is the case, and shared that they also plan on training actors in China. Although Edwin Siu (蕭正楠), Benjamin Yuen (袁偉豪), Joel Chan (陳山聰), Kenneth Ma (馬國明), Shaun Tam (譚俊彥), Lai Lok Yi (黎諾懿), Rosina Lam (林夏薇), and Nancy Wu (胡定欣) were present at the conference, Eric said that this did not indicate increased opportunities for these artistes under the new partnership, “These are the artistes who happened to have the day off. Those who are not in attendance are busy filming.”
