M3GAN is conquering the box office so hard, that many fans are already wondering if the horror movie will be getting a sequel.

As Variety previously reported, the movie was expected to net between $35 million and $43 million, but was already ahead of the predictions of the opening weekend numbers.

Officially, M3GAN brought in $30.2M for the weekend, taking the second spot in the U.S./Canada marketplace.

Now, in a new interview with Deadline, producer James Wan hinted that a sequel is in the works.

If you’re not familiar, M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a lifelike doll that’s programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally, and its’ designer gives the prototype doll to her niece, which leads to unimaginable consequences.

The outlet reported that “a sequel is already in early development.”

“I wanted to make a movie that really connects and is emotional,” James told the site about the movie. “M3GAN plays on a lot of different levels: It’s scary, creepy, touching and emotional at the same time. We wanted to lean into something more technology driven as opposed to supernatural.”
