‘You’ Star Penn Badgley Slams Netflix for Romanticizing Jeffrey Dahmer in ‘Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’

Penn Badgley might play a fictional serial killer in Netflix’s hit show You, but that doesn’t mean he’s Ok with the way real-life serial killers are romanticized in pop culture.

The 36-year-old actor put Netflix on blast for their series Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which starred Evan Peters and tracked the life of the infamous serial killer and his victims during a recent interview.

While chatting with Entertainment Tonight, Penn admitted that his Netflix series was designed to make his character Joe attractive.

“To be fair, with our show, you’re meant to fall in love with him,” he said of his character. He told people who fell in love with serials killers that they had to “look at that inside.”

Turning his attention to Jeffrey, he said “that is on Netflix.”

“That is squarely on the shoulders of Netflix,” he said, adding that it was “weird” to romanticize a killer.

Penn touched on the decision to make Joe a “charming” serial killer in another interview.
