Netflix Unveils New Password Sharing Policy, Users Report Being Kicked Out of Accounts

Netflix has been warning people for a long time that they were going to crack down on password sharing and the time has finally come.

The streaming service has sent an email to U.S. users, warning them that only people living in their household will be able to use their accounts moving forward.

“A Netflix account is for use by one household. Everyone living in that household can use Netflix wherever they are — at home, on the go, on holiday — and take advantage of new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices,” the company shared.

Users are being giving an option to allow friends and family from outside of the household to continue using their accounts, but it will come at a price.

You can now “buy an extra member” for your Netflix account, which will allow you to share your account with someone who doesn’t live with you for $7.99 a month more.

If you don’t want to pay the extra fee, you can transfer a profile to a new membership that your friend or family member pays for themselves.
