Umar finishes seventh in 400m at World University Games

PETALING JAYA: Umar Osman ended his campaign in the World University Games by finishing seventh in the men’s 400m final in Chengdu on Thursday (Aug 3).

Umar, running in a difficult Lane 1, clocked a respectable 46.41s in a fast race that broke the 26-year-old championship record of 44.81s.

Joao Coelho of Portugal and Reece Nathaniel Holder of Australia both clocked 44.79s to better the time set by Nigerian Clement Chukwu.

Coelho was declared the winner in a photo finish, Hoder settled for silver while Mihai Sorin Dringo of Romania took bronze with 45.27s.

Umar had earlier shattered his own national record of 46.34s, first in the heats with 46.33s on Tuesday (Aug 1) and in the semi-finals with 46.09s on Wednesday (Aug 2) to secure a place in the final.
