Superb comeback as Tang Jie-Ee Wei reach Indonesian Open semis
PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei showed they are back in the groove by reaching the Indonesian Open semi-finals.
The world No. 4 Tang Jie-Ee Wei had to dig deep to beat Denmark’s Jesper Toft-Amalie Magelund 17-21, 21-16, 21-14 in a 54-minute quarter-final match on Friday (June 6) at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta.
They will face sixth seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran of Thailand next, who defeated professionals Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie 21-16, 21-12 in another quarter-final match.
This is Tang Jie-Ee Wei’s best result since returning as a pair after a brief split in March.
Said Ee Wei: “It was not an easy match but our coach (Nova Widianto) urged us to stay confident and trust each other.”
“We need to stay focused as it is an important week for us.”
Tang Jie credited Ee Wei.
“We came prepared and my partner played well today. We have learnt from our short break to be more patient and responsible,” said Tang Jie in a post-match interview with the Badminton World Federation.
They were temporarily split following a fallout and were paired with different partners but they have resolved their issues and are back together.
