No malice behind viral FB post on bad hospital service, says Ling Tian Soon

JOHOR BARU: The social media user who complained about poor services at a government hospital never intended to tarnish the image of any parties, says Ling Tian Soon.

The Johor health and unity committee chairman said that the patient, Maimun Said, is currently in a stable condition and is under the care of her children.

“Maimun’s family did not expect the post to go viral and to trigger such heated discussions on social media.

“It was never their intention to tarnish anyone’s image or dignity. It was also not to get attention.

“Their concerns arose when they were not informed of the condition of their beloved mother who was admitted to the emergency unit at that time,” he said.

He added that the miscommunication has since been sorted out and the patient’s family members have been given an explanation of the actual situation at the unit.

“They are also thankful to medical staff that have been treating their mother professionally,” he said.

Ling said this in a post on Facebook after visiting Maimun and her family at Kampung Rumah Sepuluh, Masai on Saturday (Aug 5).

Earlier, a post on poor services at Hospital Sultan Ismail (HSI) has been making rounds on social media.

In the post, the patient’s family member complained about the lack of doctors in HSI’s yellow zone, which resulted in the patient waiting from 11am until 7pm before getting treated.

On Thursday (Aug 3), Ling conducted a spot check at HSI to find out the truth behind the complaint.

“I was informed that the patient was brought to the hospital’s emergency and trauma unit in an ambulance from the health clinic.

“Upon reaching, the patient was wheeled to the yellow zone where she was given the necessary medical attention; her kin was advised to wait at the green zone.

“After stabilising the patient, her blood sample was sent to the laboratory for tests. At the same time, the patient underwent a CT scan for her condition,” he said in an earlier statement after the spot check.
