Fans of Taiwanese pop diva A-mei, 50, will know she is a huge advocate for gender equality and LGBTQ rights.
However, at her recent concert in Beijing, her fans were not allowed to show their support for those exact issues.
According to Chinese concertgoers on Weibo and Xiao Hong Shu, they were banned from wearing rainbow-themed attire to the concert.

One concert goer had his pouch confiscated by concert officials because a small rainbow tchotchke was attached to it.
He later revealed he “didn’t get his pouch back” even after the concert.
Another netizen said: “When passing through the security checks, those in rainbow clothing were asked to change into plain black clothes provided by the staff.”
A fan, who was wearing a shirt with a rainbow print, was asked to turn their shirt inside out.
A-mei was also banned from performing ‘Rainbow’ at her Beijing gigs.
It’s not the first time the song has caused controversy.
In 2014, the singer was not allowed to sing “Rainbow’ at her concert in Singapore. However, at her recent concert here in July, the singer performed the song though concertgoers were asked by the security to not wave rainbow flags during the performance.
