State polls: ‘We’re here to fight old politics’, says Syed Saddiq

KUALA TERENGGANU: Muda’s decision to contest in the state polls is not to topple the unity government or split votes, says Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

The party president said that the party wanted to fight the old political system that is not benefiting the rakyat.

“We’re not fighting against the government, and also not siding with the Opposition.

“We’re here to fight the old politics. We have seen that regardless of the party in power, they ended the same, nothing for the rakyat,” he said in a ceramah at Pulau Warisan here on Thursday (Aug 10) night.

The former youth and sports minister said if voters at the Bandar constituency here elect Muda’s candidate Luqman Long, it will still be a win-win situation.

“PAS MPs will still remain the MPs. Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional will still be the unity government.

“But let’s send at least one Muda representative as the rakyat’s voice and serve as check and balance. Everyone will benefit from this,” he added.

The Terengganu-born candidate’s manifesto focuses on addressing brain drain, especially among youth in the state, decent living wage as well as public transport issues within the capital.

“We have seen Terengganu changed its government many times. From Barisan to PAS but the same problem persists,” Luqman said.

Terengganu has been a swing state when it comes to elections, where it had seen PAS taking the helm in 1999, and once again in 2018 replacing Barisan.

Luqman will be going up against Barisan’s Armi Izan and PAS’ Ahmad Shah Muhamed in the Aug 12 poll.
