TVB Actor Lai Lok Yi Invested S$1.7Mil In F&B Group With 30 Restaurants

Guess you can call him the king of restaurants now.

Like many celebs before him, Hong Kong actor Lai Lok Yi is branching out into the food and beverage industry… but with a twist.

Instead of opening his own restaurant or cafe, the 43-year-old has invested in the parent company behind such dining establishments instead.

At a recent event celebrating the opening of a restaurant run by the Gaia Group, Lok Yi was in attendance as the company’s “creative director”.

Speaking to the media, the actor revealed that he has invested over HK$10mil (S$1.7mil) into the group.

“I’m in charge of menu design and distribution, I’m basically a high-level odd-job worker, but I won’t be involved in [fellow TVB star] Katy Kung’s dessert business,. I’ll only help out when it comes to opening more branches.”

Katy is a major investor in the dessert shop, Kew+ Cake, which opened its first outlet with the Gaia Group recently.

In interviews, Katy described her rumoured boyfriend, Japanese pastry chef Tetsuya Matsuoka, as her “business partner” for Kew+ Cake.

Katy and Tetsuya.

Lok Yi went on to share that the Gaia Group, which has over 30 restaurants, plans to open another 20 within the year. However, he does not plan to make this business his main focus.

“I hope to leave a form of family business behind, apart from my acting career. In the future, I can pass this on to my sons,” he said.

Lok Yi is married to ex Miss Hong Kong contestant and beauty conglomerate heiress Nicole Lee, with whom he is two sons, six and one.
