Twin by-elections: Swimming coach votes early on grandfather’s death anniversary

MUAR: Despite a busy day preparing for the anniversary of her grandfather’s passing, Ng Pei Yao did not miss the chance to cast her vote.

The 23-year-old swimming coach was among the first few early voters at the SJKC Pei Chai voting centre here.

“I decided to come early so that I can help out with my grandfather’s funeral anniversary right after this.

“I am worried that if I do not come vote first thing in the morning, I may not have the time later on,” she said.

Ng said that this is the third time she is casting her vote with the first during the Johor state election and the 15th general election.

Voters can be seen waiting at the polling centre here as early as 7.30am.

Another Simpang Jeram voter, Nga Kor Siang, 40, said that he decided to come early as he was not working on Saturday (Sept 9).

“I have never missed casting my vote in any election no matter the situation. For me, this is my responsibility as a citizen,” he said.

As of 8.30am, the crowd at the voting centres here is still relatively low.

Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Simpang Jeram state seat Nazri Abdul Rahman is expected to cast his vote here at 10am.
