Satay to be declared Selangor’s heritage food

SEPANG: Selangor plans to gazette satay as a heritage food in an effort to promote the state as a destination for the popular delicacy.

Selangor state Heritage and Malay Customs Corporation chairman Borhan Aman Shah said the proposal would be presented to the state executive council by the end of this year.

“Although satay is sold nationwide, they are most popular in Kajang, which is a district in Selangor.

“The proposal to gazette satay as a state heritage food is expected to receive approval in early 2024,” he said at the launch of Fiesta Sate Selangor at Avani Sepang Goldcoast Resort in Bagan Lalang, Sepang on Saturday (Sept 16).

Borhan, who is also state housing and culture committee chairman, added that Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari was expected to announce the official gazettement.

The fiesta, which is currently taking place at Pantai Bagan Lalang, will serve 100,000 sticks of satay.

Also present were top officials from Selangor’s local councils and the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry.
