Take action on errant subordinates or face action yourself, Deputy IGP warns senior cops

KUALA LUMPUR: All police officers and personnel in supervisory roles must take action against subordinates who commit wrongdoings, says Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police said senior officers and personnel must be stern and brave when carrying out their roles and closely monitor their subordinates.

“Cases of wrongdoing involving the police force are on the rise,” he said, and supervisors cannot avoid taking action “just for the sake of being popular among subordinates”.

“Not only is there a lack of action, some were not even reprimanded,” he said in his address during the Bukit Aman monthly assembly here on Monday (Sept 25).

Ayob Khan said all directors, police commissioners, commandants, state police chiefs, department chiefs and officers in charge of police districts (OCPD) must take stern action to enforce rules and regulations.

“We will take action against any superior officer who fails to take necessary action against subordinates involved in wrongdoing or with disciplinary problems.

“All state contingents, brigades and formations must not rely solely on the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department to do an inspection and take appropriate action,” he said.
