Ambulance involved in accident while going through traffic light junction

SEREMBAN: An ambulance driver and the two patients he was transporting suffered light injuries after the vehicle he was driving met with an accident at a traffic light junction near the Sri Sendayan mosque here.

Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Arifai Tarawe said a medical assistant travelling in the ambulance and the 57-year-old driver of a car were also injured in the 6.10am accident on Friday (Oct 20).

He said the 43-year-old ambulance driver was transporting two male patients aged 18 and 66 to the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital (TJH) from Sepang in Selangor.

ACP Arifai said the ambulance had its beacon lights and siren on and the driver was driving through the traffic light junction when it was red.

“However, the driver of a car coming from the right was unable to not stop in time and crashed into the side of the ambulance,” he said, adding that the impact of the crash caused the ambulance to land on its side.

ACP Arifai said all five victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.

He urged eyewitnesses to contact the district police station at 06-603 3222.

The case is being probed under rule 17 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959.
