Make sure businesses follow rules, KL top cop tells licensors

KUALA LUMPUR: Those issuing licences to businesses must also do their part in ensuring that the companies or outlets are run as they should be, says the city’s top cop.

Referring to the recent raids at Bollywood-themed nightclubs here, Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said police had performed numerous checks on such establishments since the start of the year.

“Be it KL or Dang Wangi police, we have conducted series after series of checks. All have done their checks, from the narcotics team to the Criminal Investigation Department.

“We urge the licensor, please do your enforcement. (You) have a responsibility to do so.

“Don’t just leave it to the police. Yes, we have the power (to check) but we have other responsibilities as well,” he said at a press conference on Friday (Oct 20) at the contingent police headquarters.

Comm Allaudeen added that the police would refer a case to the deputy public prosecutor for further action once the investigation paper had been completed.

“Investigations are still ongoing and once we refer the investigation paper we see what the outcome is,” he said.

Previously, CID deputy director Deputy Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the outlets in Kompleks Wilayah were owned by foreigners, and employed only foreign workers while also offering exotic dances.

“The four clubs at Kompleks Wilayah were licensed by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), thus DBKL should have monitored them.

“However, the police have to ensure everyone adheres to the laws and regulations,” he said.
