Nearly 11,000 nabbed for drug offences in KL from January to September

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 10,955 people have been arrested for drug offences in the city from January to September, says Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid.

“We also seized RM60mil worth of drugs,” the Kuala Lumpur police chief said, adding that the number of arrests in the corresponding period last year was 10,614.

“On Oct 19, the KL Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) seized 208kg of drugs worth RM7mil.

“I commend the success and I hope the department will step up its operations,” he told reporters after attending the city police monthly assembly here on Tuesday (Oct 24).

Comm Allaudeen said the crime index in the first nine months of the year saw a reduction of 382 cases or 10.3% compared to the same period last year.

“Violent crimes showed a drop of 121 cases (14.1%).

“Crimes involving belongings also dropped 10.2% this year from last year,” he added.

He noted that the KL Religion and Counselling division (Baka) also conducted 1,001 sessions involving 704 police personnel since January.

“We must not label those seeking assistance and advice.

“While they are having problems, they are looking for ways to overcome (their troubles),” he said.

Comm Allaudeen said integrity and good mental health should be a priority for all members of the force as it “would lead to better quality of work and accountability,” he said.

During the assembly, he also reminded all KL police personnel and officers of the latest instructions from Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, including instilling service delivery based on integrity and good governance.

“All OCPDs, police station chiefs and supervisors must inspect police lock-ups at least four times daily, including checking on the detainees’ meals.

“Operations and arrests should be increased to reduce fear and perception of crime, and to elevate the image of the police force,” he said.
