“If the situation calls for it, the OCPD will mobilise more men on the ground. But at this point of time whatever actions that are needed is still under the jurisdiction of the district level.

“We are not at the level where it would be under the contingent command, or where we will need to seek assistance for other districts,” he said.

Police patrols in flood hit areas are ongoing, both as a crime prevention and rescue effort.

Comm Hussein also urged all those affected by the recent floods to evacuate when told to.

When asked about police readiness to face the monsoon period, He said that training and recent asset acquisitions following the 2021 Sri Muda floods has better prepared the police for search and rescue operations.

“We have also been conducting training, for example in heavy vehicle and boat handling.God willing we are better prepared with the assets that we have and new ones that we have acquired.

“I can say we are more prepared this time than previous years,” he said.

Recent heavy rain has led to floods in Selangor, and temporary evacuation centers have opened in Bangi and Sepang.

According to the Welfare Departments Info Bencana website, 702 victims have been placed at the eight temporary shelters in Selangor alone.
