Four Bersatu MPs who support PM urged to step down, pave way for by-elections

PETALING JAYA: The four Bersatu MPs who have pledged support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim have been told to resign immediately to pave way for fresh by-elections.

Bersatu information chief Datuk Razali Idris branded the quartet as ‘traitors’ for giving their support to Anwar.

“They should resign and re-contest on the ticket that they really support,” Sinar Harian reported him as saying after launching the Perikatan Nasional election machinery for the upcoming Kemaman by-election.

The by-election will be held on Dec 2 and nomination day on Nov 18.

Razali said Perikatan Nasional was also contemplating legal action against the four MPs.

He also said they would lodge reports with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police, claiming that their support was in exchange for financial assistance.

On Nov 8, Jeli MP Zahari Kechik became the fourth Bersatu MP to declare support for Anwar.

Following Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid and Labuan MP Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman.

Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin later announced that Suhaili and Iskandar Dzulkarnain had been suspended from the party for four and six years respectively.
