No talks on Perlis govt change, says Azmin

HULU SELANGOR: There are no discussions by Perikatan Nasional leaders over the possible change of leadership in the Perlis state government, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

According to Azmin, remarks by Perlis Bersatu liaison chief Abu Bakar Hamzah that Bersatu was ready to helm the state government, was merely a personal comment.

“That is his personal view that wasn’t discussed by Perikatan.

“I don’t comment on the personal views of an individual,” said Azmin, who is Selangor Bersatu chief, to reporters when met during a ceramah at Ampang Pecah on Saturday (May 4) night.

PAS Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, who was also present, agreed with Azmin, saying that there were no such discussions.

“It’s still too early to discuss the change of state government,” said Ahmad Fadhli.

Abu Bakar said on May 2 that the party will leave it to the wisdom of the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail and the Perikatan leadership to decide on possible change in the state leadership.

Perlis Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli was recently grilled by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over allegations of power abuse involving his son and himself.

In the 15th General Election in 2022, Perikatan won 14 out of 15 state seats, with PAS winning nine seats and Bersatu (five).
