Wilber Pan’s Reaction When Called “Fat Eggplant” For Wearing Purple Sweater Is Hilarious
Fat shaming comments are like water off a duck’s back for the self-deprecating pop star.
Taiwanese singer Wilber Pan is as much known for his music as he is for his struggle with weight.
In recent years, the 43-year-old has made headlines for his fluctuating physique, as well as his diet and weight-loss journey.
He admits to being prone to gaining weight. It doesn’t help that he’s a foodie and hardly restrains himself when it comes to food.
But the weight seems to come off just as easily too.
The 1.74m-tall singer tipped the scales at his heaviest at 93kg last May. But through exercise and a diet consisting of mostly boiled food, he managed to lose 20kg in two months, which let’s be honest, is really impressive.
Wilber’s weight came under the spotlight again recently when he made an appearance on Chinese host Li Chen’s (not to be confused with Fan Bingbing’s ex-fiance) live stream to sell clothes.
During the live stream, Wilber changed into a purple sweater that viewers could buy.
Looking quite pleased with himself as he modelled the M-sized knit top for the camera, he said: “Actually I am not fat, I’m muscular.”
“This colour is so unique. I suddenly feel very confident. It’s rare that I can find a sweater that suits me.”
However, he seemed to change his tune after reading a comment: “Eh, who called me ‘fat eggplant’?” as everyone in the studio burst into laughter.
The host then asked: “What is fat eggplant? Their nickname for you?”
Wilber replied: “I don’t know. Maybe it’s ‘cos I am wearing purple.”
He then added: “After [the] fat eggplant [comment], someone asked if it’s [referring to] Wilber Pan? It’s not Wilber Pan, I’m not [a fat eggplant].”
“What eggplant, I think it suits me.”
Wilber, who has been watching his diet for his world tour, later jokingly said: “I’m not eating anymore.”
