4WD plunges off bridge, lands on jogging park in KK

KOTA KINABALU: Three people reportedly escaped serious injuries after the four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle they were in plunged from a bridge onto a jogging park 10m below in Likas here on Tuesday (Dec 5).

The incident took place at the bridge opposite the Menara Kinabalu state administration building at about 2pm.

An eyewitness, who only wished to be known as Azil, said he was trailing the 4WD which was carrying the trio before the vehicle suddenly veered off the bridge.

He said he was headed to the city centre from the direction of Kingfisher Park in Likas.

“The vehicle suddenly veered to the left and crashed into the bridge railing before nosediving onto the jogging lane at the Likas Bay recreation centre,” he said when met at the location.

Together with other passers-by, he said, they stopped their vehicles and attended to the victims, believed to be in their 40s and 50s.

“We helped the victims get out from the vehicle.

“Thankfully, they are okay and it seems they only had minor injuries on the body,” Azil said.

The police have yet to comment on the mishap.

A patrol vehicle unit from the Kota Kinabalu police force was also at the scene to help the victims as well as control traffic.

The police have, however, not commented on the mishap.

It was learned that the victims were subsequently sent in an ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) here.
