Police Volunteer Reserve officers, personnel in Selangor promoted in ceremony

SHAH ALAM: A total of 33 officers and rank-and-file personnel from the Police Volunteer Reserve (PVR) in Selangor were given official insignia to mark their elevated positions under the presence of the top brass.

The ceremony, held at the auditorium of the state police headquarters here on Tuesday (Dec 5), was graced by Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Sasikala Devi Subramaniam.

All the recipients were also handed certificates before posing for a group photo during the event.

They include seven senior officers who were promoted from the rank of Inspector to Assistant Superintendent of Police.

The remaining 26 were promoted to Sub Inspector (one), Sergeant Major (four) and Sergeant (21).

Also present to witness the occasion were Bukit Aman police volunteer reserve chief coordinator Supt Datuk Seri Johny Ch’ng Ewe Gee, Selangor Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department deputy chiefs Asst Comm Ruslan Ibrahim and Asst Comm Dr Tan Geok Mooi and acting Selangor PVR commandant Deputy Supt Ahmad Sazali Selamat.

According to records, the Selangor police have 763 registered PVR personnel.

However, only 423 of them are on active duty.

The PVR serves as a key backup branch for the police force.

Supt Ch’ng when contacted said the role of PVR was pertinent to assist the police during operations to prevent and combat criminal activities.

He said a PVR officer when performing police duties, would have the same powers, authority and discipline as a regular police officer of corresponding rank.

The officers comprise professionals such as architects, engineers, lawyers, teachers, doctors, businessmen and senior government officers who would undergo continuous training prior to active duty.
