Malaysia fully backs UN resolution for immediate Gaza ceasefire, says Wisma Putra
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia fully backed the resolution demanding an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, says Wisma Putra.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said that the resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire shows the United Nations General Assembly expressing its grave concern for the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip

“The Assembly further called for an immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, as well as ensuring unhindered humanitarian access,” said Wisma Putra.
“All parties are urged to comply with their obligations under international law including international humanitarian law, notably with regard to the protection of civilians,” it added.
The UN General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted a draft resolution Tuesday (Dec 12) demanding an immediate humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza.
The non-binding resolution was presented by Egypt with the support of nearly 100 countries, including Türkiye.

It passed with 153 votes in favor as the 193-member General Assembly gathered for an emergency special session on Palestine.
Ten countries, including the US, Israel and Austria, voted against the resolution, while 23 countries including the UK, Germany, Italy and Ukraine abstained.
Wisma Putra added that the resounding support for the resolution by a group of cross-regional countries reflects the unwavering support of the international community to find a just, lasting and peaceful settlement to the Palestinian-Israel conflict.
“This is even more urgent given the grim humanitarian tragedy currently unfolding in the Gaza Strip due to the relentless Israeli aggression,” added Wisma Putra.
The resolution came after the US vetoed a UN Security Council draft resolution on Friday (Dec 8) that demanded an immediate cease-fire to halt the ongoing bloodshed in the Gaza Strip as the death toll continues to mount.
