Jay Chou Suffers From An Arthritic Condition, Was Once In So Much Pain, He Took 10 Mins To Walk 10M

Before Taiwanese actor Liu Genghong, 50, surged to popularity as a fitness influencer during the pandemic, the gym rat was already a trainer to the stars.

One of his celebrity clients is pal Jay Chou, 44.

Genghong, who recently launched a new fitness book, shared that for many years, Jay suffered from ankylosing spondylitis, a genetic arthritic condition that causes inflammation in the joints and ligaments in the spine.

As a friend, he encouraged Jay to exercise more.

Besides working out in the gym, they would cycle and shoot hoops together. Jay would also switch things up by playing tennis, golf, and badminton.

Not only did his fitness improve, his condition also improved significantly.

“Of course, medical technology is quite advanced now, and his medical condition has improved a lot. It’s not like the frequent episodes in the past when he couldn’t even move,” said Genghong.

He recalled a time when he knocked on Jay’s door, and it took the singer about 10 minutes to walk 10 metres from the bed to his door.

Jay also suffered severe stiffness in the back and would sometimes have to sleep sitting up.
