Cameron Highlands landslide victims identified as Myanmar nationals

PETALING JAYA: The five victims of the landslide early Friday (Jan 26) morning at Cameron Highlands have been identified as Myanmar nationals.

Cameron Highlands OCPD Deputy Supt Azri Ramli said that the first victim had been identified as Haphey, 36, who was found dead at about 3am on Friday, Malay language daily Sinar Harian reported.

DSP Azri told Sinar the vicims who are still missing and feared buried alive have been identified as Shing Lan Har, 56; Shing Aung, 39; Om Myue, 38; and Thang Moung, 25.

“We received a report of the incident at 2.10am on Friday and rushed to the scene,” he said.

He added that four-wheel drive vehicles were needed as the route to the incident location had been cut off.

“The search and rescue operation for the remaining four victims is ongoing.

“The SAR team comprises personnel from the police, Civid Defence, the Fire and Rescue Department and the Army,” DSP Azri told Sinar Harian.

He urged those with any information to call the operations room at 05-491 5999 or the nearest police station.
