Don’t be deceived, Muslims in Selangor advised

KLANG: Muslims in Selangor have been reminded not to be misled by erroneous religious teachings.

State Islamic and cultural innovation committee chairman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said Muslims in the state must not be deceived by individuals claiming to be descendants of Prophet Muhammad.

He called on Muslims to be especially cautious of claims made by individuals such as Mawla Mohamed Amin Al-Hassani, who has reportedly said he is a direct descendant of the Prophet.

“I urge Muslims, especially those in Selangor, to refer to the official stand of the Islamic Religious Department (Jais) or the Selangor Mufti’s office and not be misled by such claims,” Mohammad Fahmi said in a statement yesterday.

The state executive councillor’s statement comes a day after Jais director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad warned the state’s Muslims against Mawla Mohamed Amin.

Mohd Shahzihan also said investigations conducted by Jais had showed that a madrasah in the state was suspected to have hosted the foreign “preacher” during his visit to Selangor last year.

Mohammad Fahmi said in an era where information can be easily obtained, there are official Islamic religious agencies in the state for the public to report to as well as to get reference and guidance on such matters.

He said in the event that proper references were not made, Muslims would be easily deceived, influenced, manipulated and become obsessed with certain quarters.

“I urge all of us to return to the basics and facts so that the sanctity of Islam can be maintained and respected,” he added.

Mohammad Fahmi also said the Selangor government will not compromise with any party that raises doubts and untruths among Muslims in the state.

“The state has already cooperated with the police and is formulating action together with the Immigration Department to prevent the entry of such elements into Selangor,” he said.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar issued a warning earlier last week against Mawla Mohamed Amin’s claims and teachings.

A report in a Malay daily said Mawla Mohamed Amin, who claims to be Prophet Muhammad’s 38th descendant, holds French-Algerian citizenship and is in no way linked to the Prophet.

It also said the man, Mohamed Amin Ouradj, 40, was born in Algeria and moved to France with his family.
