Things To Do If There Is A COVID-19 Case In Your Neighborhood

The number of Coronavirus (COVID-19) confirmed cases in Malaysia has increased to 197 cases, as updated on March 13. With the newly confirmed 39 cases, it is reasonable for Malaysians to feel unsafe and insecure of own health, especially when there is a confirmed COVID-19 case in the neighbourhood.

Here are a few things that we would like you to bear in mind if the above-mentioned scenario is your reality:

1. Avoid Being Panic

Understandably, people are sensitive to misinformation and panic-buying. However, remember to be aware of the fearmongering and stay calm.

2. Stay informed And Listen To Local Health Departments and the Ministry of Health (MoH)

The public should gain information from credible sources. Changes, such as school dismissals, would affect your daily routine.

If a resident is proved to have or is suspected to have COVID-19, promptly inform the local health department and contact the district health office for guidance regarding proper measures to take.

3. Keep Practising Daily Preventive Basics

Covering your mouth with your elbow or tissues while coughing and sneezing.

Besides, wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. People should also clean frequently touched surfaces. Buildings with poor ventilation can place people at a higher risk for the virus.

4. Try To Work From Home And Avoid Crowded Public Places

If an outbreak happens in your community, avoid public areas and try to work from home. Alertness is the key.

You don’t have to isolate yourself totally from public life. It is necessary to wash your hands before, during and after a trip. Those who are sick should isolate themselves. Self-Isolation does not mean zero contact.
