30 school kids among 178 people nabbed in joint enforcement op in Ipoh
IPOH: A total of 30 school students were among the 178 people arrested by police in a joint law enforcement operation held here.
The operation at 2.30am on Sunday (April 7) was carried out by personnel from the Ipoh Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division and the Perak National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said those arrested are aged 15 to 35, involving a total of 166 men and 12 women.
He said that out of that number, a total of 30 people nabbed were secondary school students and four students of institutions of higher learning.
“In this operation, we detained 143 motorcycles for inspection and from that number, 19 motorcycles were confiscated for various offences.
“Among the most serious offences involved the modification of vehicles under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he told reporters at the Traffic Enforcement Unit at Jalan Chamberlain Hulu here on Sunday.
He said during the same operation, a total of 302 summonses were issued to road users while urine screening tests conducted by AADK found five individuals tested positive for drugs.
He said one of the five individuals who were found to be positive for the drug had been arrested in the same operation last year.
“In addition, we also managed to arrest four individuals for offences under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
“This operation was held to combat the activities of street thugs where we have received many complaints from residents regarding activities that disturb public order,” he said.
