10 vehicles stranded in Ayer Keroh flash flood

MELAKA: A total of 10 vehicles were trapped in flood water at Jalan Tun Razak, Ayer Keroh on Friday evening (June 28) following a heavy downpour.

The weather also uprooted a giant tree, damaging a car and a motorcycle at Jalan Sungai Putat, Batu Berendam.

The driver trapped inside his car was later rescued by the Fire and Rescue Department and personnel from the Civil Defence Force.

Several areas were affected by the flash floods, including the Sungai Udang-Paya Rumput-Ayer Keroh Highway near Jalan Autocity, Jalan Gangsa, Jalan Krubong, and Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC).

Melaka River Cruise management also announced that it had suspended its boat services due to rising water levels and strong currents due to the heavy rainfall.

“Immediately after receiving an emergency call about the incident, a seven-member team from the Ayer Keroh Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the location, arriving about four minutes later,” said a Melaka Fire and Rescue Department spokesman.

“The vehicles were moved to a safe place, and the operation ended at about 5.30pm.”

Earlier, a video went viral on the WhatsApp application showing several vehicles, including motorcycles, stuck in the thigh-deep flood waters. Some areas in Melaka experienced heavy rain at about 4pm but the downpour subsided approximately three hours later.
