Fire razes 32 hawker stalls in Batu Feringgi
GEORGE TOWN: Thirty-two stalls at the Huma House Hawker Complex at Batu Feringgi were destroyed in a fire on Sunday (July 28).
State Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said however no one was injured.
“The department received a distress call from the public at about 2pm informing about the incident,” said the spokesman.
He said the fire involved 32 stalls with an estimated 10×10 sq ft area of each unit.
He said the destruction caused by the fire is estimated at 80 per cent.
Several vehicles including motorcycles parked nearby were also destroyed in the incident.
“The fire also destroyed some of the items being sold in the complex,” he said.
He said the fire was brought under control and completely extinguished at 5.55pm.
The case is handed over to a fire investigation officer for further investigation into the cause of the fire.
Firefighters from Teluk Bahang fire station assisted in the operation.
