Some 20 villages near Sg Golok expected to flood this weekend, flood forecasting centre warns

KOTA BARU: The National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre of the Irrigation and Drainage Department has forecast that nearly 20 villages in low-lying areas within 5km of Sungai Golok, along the Malaysia-Thailand border are expected to experience flooding from Friday to Sunday.

In a statement on Wednesday (Nov 20), the centre issued the warning at 3.30pm today following continuous rainfall since Tuesday, as well as the predicted rise in river water levels exceeding dangerous levels.

Among the affected villages are Kg Kubang Rambutan, Kg Kubang Tok Deh, Kg Tersang, Kg Baroh Pial, Kg Kubang Pak Hitam, Kg Siput, Kg Kedai Lama, and Kg Lubok Gong.

Other villages such as Kg Kok Pauh, Kg Tok Rusa, Kg Banggol Sepuleh, Kg Kalor, Kg Lanchang, Kg Gual Nibung, Kg Banggol, Kg Padang Licin, Kg Serongga, Kg Tok Derpah, and Kg Gual Periok are also expected to experience similar conditions, according to the centre.

The statement added that the predicted flooding could occur earlier or later than expected, depending on significant rainfall in the area.

The centre’s warning has been issued to ensure that all residents, particularly in the areas expected to be affected by floods, remain alert and comply with the instructions of the authorities or flood management teams. – Bernama
