Malaysian Students Bagged 9 Medals at Mathematical Olympiad In Japan

Minister of Economic Affairs, Datuk Seri Azmin Ali praised the achievements of the young Malaysians who won nine medals at the World International Mathematical Olympiad (WIMO) in Tokyo, Japan recently.

Nine primary school students were named the overall winner champion – receiving the best results with two world champions, six gold and one silver.

Malaysia emerged as world champions in this competition. The gold medalists were namely Yeoh Yi Shuen from SJK (C) Kwang Hwa, Penang and Teoh Zhou Zhe from SJK (C) Min Terk, Kedah.

The other six gold medalists from Malaysia were from SJK (C) Jalan Davidson of Kuala Lumpur, (Alvis Leow Jin Ker, Brandon Choo Sze How, Chai Feng Ze, Hoo Jordan, Hoo Xinyi) and from SJK (C) Serdang Baru, Selangor (Tang Yi Xuan).

While Cheah Jor Wii from SJK (C) Perempuan China, Penang won silver in her category against other Primary Four students.

According to BERNAMA, the Olympiad is a math exam where participants are tested on logical thinking, arithmetic and algebra, number theory, geometry, and combinatorics – according to their own grades.
