A doctor from China has gained attention for his 25kg weight loss in just 42 days.
After his weight loss feat, Wu Tian Gen, a 31-year-old surgeon at Hubei’s Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, then bagged several awards at a bodybuilding competition, including newcomer champ and the most popular participant.
Tian Gen tipped the scales at 97.5kg in 2024, the heaviest he’s ever been, according to reports. The year before, he had discovered that he had a mild fatty liver.
As a doctor who helps obese patients lose weight through surgery, Tian Gen knew he had to get into better shape.
By January this year, the 1.82m tall Tian Gen, weighed 73.5kg, after 42 days of a strict diet and workout regimen.
Reports state that while training for the competition, Tian Gen would work out for two hours a day, and sleep for six hours a day. He’d wake up at 5.30am and do a cardio workout for an hour before work; after work, he would do another hour of anaerobic exercise. He would also soak his feet in hot water and take a hot shower to promote blood circulation before bed.
During this period, Tian Gen also had to balance his work duties, which includes attending to three surgeries a week, two days of ward visits, and daily research and consultations.

Tian Gen did not reveal his diet plan, but it is said that in the days leading up to the competition, he extended his workout schedule, exercising for four hours instead of two.
With his amazing transformation, Tian Gen wishes to set a good example for his patients. He believes that his success can help him gain trust and cooperation from patients who are on similar weight-loss journeys.
He is now an advocate for a healthy living, which promotes getting sufficient rest, a science-backed diet, exercise, and a being in a calm frame of mind.
Ironically, he also emphasises that he does not back “drastic, short-term methods” which calls for people to eat “very little” for his patients.
Tian Gen’s coach, an acclaimed Chinese bodybuilding athlete, recognises that the intensity of the doctor’s training “exceeds that of many professional athletes”.
Basically, it looks like discipline and determination is really the key if you wish to be like Tian Gen.
