Pet Pooch Ferried Around By Robot Dog: “Is This The Future Of Dog-Walking?” Netizens Ask
Stephanie Chan2025-03-30T22:57:40+08:00A recent video featuring two dogs — one furry and one robotic — has been making the rounds online, piquing the curiosity of many.
Filmed by a passerby in Chengdu, China, the clip shows a small pet dog comfortably seated atop a robot dog as it strolls down the street.
The pampered pup was being ferried the entire time, much like Cinderella in her pumpkin carriage.
According to Chinese media, the small pooch is a well-trained pet, while the robot dog is the latest product developed by a local tech company.
The high-tech canine can do way more than just walk around. It’s designed to navigate obstacles, mimic dog-like behaviours such as rolling over and bowing, and even ‘interact’ with its owner through eye contact.
The passerby who filmed the scene noted that the real dog appeared calm, seemingly enjoying the experience.
The robot dog quickly became a trending topic, with netizens both amused and intrigued by the concept.
One quipped: “Is this the future of pet-walking?”
Another compared the scene to a “palace concubine out on a leisurely stroll”.
While some see it as a fascinating leap in technology, others questioned its practicality.
On one hand, it offers convenience to busy pet owners and those whose pets have mobility issues.
However, it doesn’t come cheap — reportedly costing around 100K yuan (S$18.4k), excluding maintenance fees.
Safety is another concern. Many wondered whether the robot dog can reliably adapt to unpredictable environments, such as crowded streets or sudden obstacles.
Besides this viral clip, there are also snaps showing a robot dog “walking” a pooch on a leash circulating online.
