Roads around Putrajaya Core Island to close for National Day celebration

KUALA LUMPUR: Roads around Putrajaya Core Island will be closed to private vehicles from 6 pm on Aug 29 until the conclusion of the National Day parade on Aug 31, says Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

He said the closure was to facilitate final preparations for the National Day celebration, which would be held at Dataran Putrajaya this year.

Fahmi said a full rehearsal would take place from Aug 27 to 29, from 6am to 11am, with road closures in place throughout the rehearsal sessions.

“For those with matters in Putrajaya, particularly in the affected areas, please plan your journey accordingly,” he said at the launch of the Denyut Nadi Merdeka Campaign organised by Prasarana Malaysia Bhd in conjunction with the 68th National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations here on Saturday (Aug 23).

Also present was Prasarana Group President and Chief Executive Officer Amir Hamdan.

Fahmi, who is also chairman of the Main Committee for the National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) 2025 celebrations, said preparations for this year’s National Day celebration were progressing smoothly with the involvement of various parties, including schoolchildren taking part in human graphics formation and parade contingent training.

“I urge all Malaysians to fly the Jalur Gemilang with pride and participate in the various programmes held throughout this National Month leading up to the Malaysia Day celebration,” he said.

Meanwhile, Amir said in conjunction with National Day, Rapid KL rail services, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Sunway Line, several bus routes, and selected Rapid KL On-Demand (ROD) zones would be operating continuously from 6am on Aug 30 until 11.30pm on Aug 31, 2025.

As for additional bus services, he said 86 routes involving 235 buses would operate on Merdeka Eve, while on National Day, the number would be increased to 100 routes with 308 buses.

For the Rapid On-Demand (ROD) service, Amir said 20 vans would be provided, covering five zones from Putrajaya Sentral Station and one zone in the Central Business District, with bookings available through the MyRapid PULSE app at a fare of RM1.

“With more than 5,000 frontliners, we are confident that services this year will run more smoothly and safely. We hope Malaysians will take advantage of these facilities and come together to embrace the spirit of independence,” he said. – Bernama
