Claims of Bersatu making overtures to PH are malicious disinformation, says Muhyiddin

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has denied claims that Bersatu is attempting to establish closer ties to Pakatan Harapan.

The Bersatu president said there has never been any discussion within the party about forging closer ties with its rival, Pakatan, and that any suggestion of this is merely disinformation.

“These are baseless and malicious accusations intended solely to undermine harmony within Bersatu and among the component parties of Perikatan Nasional.

“No such discussion has ever taken place at any level of Bersatu, including within the supreme leadership council, which determines the party’s policies and direction,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday (March 16).

Muhyiddin also reiterated Bersatu’s commitment to Perikatan for the sake of the party’s goal of defending religion, race and the nation while safeguarding the welfare of the people.

“It was based on these principles that Bersatu founded Perikatan together with PAS, and was later joined by Gerakan and the Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP).

“Perikatan remains the best platform for Bersatu to realise its political struggle, and the party has never wavered from this position.

“At present, Bersatu’s focus is on strengthening the party and reinforcing Perikatan in preparation for the 16th General Election,” he added.

Muhyiddin’s response comes after former Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, who was sacked from the party last month, claimed on Sunday (March 15) that there was a faction looking to forge closer ties with Pakatan.
