Senior citizen dies after being hit by motorcycle near Ipoh

IPOH: A 67-year-old pedestrian has been killed in an accident involving a motorcycle along Jalan Kampar near here on Thursday (April 2).

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Najib Hamzah said the incident occurred at about 7.15am when a 42-year-old motorcyclist travelling from Simpang Pulai towards the city centre collided with the pedestrian, who was crossing the road from a divider.

He said according to preliminary investigations, the motorcyclist attempted to brake and swerve to avoid the pedestrian.

“However, due to the close distance, he was unable to avoid the collision.

“The pedestrian sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His body was later sent to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun for a post-mortem,” he said in a statement.

He added that the motorcyclist was also injured and taken to the hospital’s emergency department for treatment.

“We have impounded the motorcycle for inspection by Puspakom.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has relevant information is urged to contact investigating officer Insp Muhammad Syafiq Fauze at 05-2451537, or visit the nearest police station.

“No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving,” he said.
