Tanglin Actress Confronts Man Who Secretly Filmed Her In Plaza Singapura

If you ever had someone take a video or a photo of you in public without your consent, you would know it’s a very upsetting experience. Even more so when you have no idea what they would be doing with that photo of you.

And trust us when we say that despite the frustration one goes through in such circumstances, it takes plenty of courage to stand up to these creeps.

It’s why we really have to hand it to local actress Shu Yi Ching for standing up to a middle-aged man, whom she caught secretly filming her at Plaza Singapura.

He clearly messed with the wrong person.

In her video, Shu Yi, who has appeared in Mediacorp dramas such as Tanglin (2015) and Reunion (2021), can be heard filming the man and angrily confronting him at the same time.

“You took a video of me and I confronted you and you admitted that you did, so I need to see you delete the video, or else I’ll call the police,” she said at the start of her clip.

The man did not look remorseful as he replied “Okay, okay,” his voice tinged with annoyance.

She then followed him all the way into the carpark, demanding for answers.

“Why do you think you can take a video of me?” she questioned him.

The man started to delete the images he took of her, and after doing that, asked that she stopped following him.

“Please don’t disturb me,” he said as he tried to hide his face with a plastic bag.

However, Shu Yi did not back down.

“So you can take a video of me and I can’t take [one] of you? Is this what it is?” she said.

When the man realised that Shu Yi was not going to leave him alone, he let out a loud sigh which served to anger her even more.

“Hello, what do you mean ‘sigh’? You took a video of me and followed me,” she asked.

The man continued with his ‘sorrys’ as he tried to escape her.

They then entered a stairwell, where he asked to be “left alone” and tried to make a run for it.

Shu Yi chased after him, threatening to report him to the police.

Thankfully, an off-duty police officer noticed the commotion and attempted to mediate the situation.

The man finally gave up on his great escape, and was ushered to the side of the car park by the officer.

“I’m so sorry about it,” the man said again.

The video ended as the officer stepped in to deal with the situation.

On her IG, Shu Yi wrote that she posted the video to her social media “because it is important to speak up”

“It is important to stand my ground, it is important for this to [be] seen. We need to be heard,” she added.

Shu Yi has been praised by netizens for standing up to the man, with many commending her on her bravery.

Surprisingly, there were a few netizens who felt that she was “harassing the man” by continuously tailing him and posting the video of him online.

Shu Yi later addressed the issue in a separate video, which was taken in her car. She tearfully explained that this was not her first experience being filmed without consent. It was however the first time she confronted the perpetrator and speak up about it.

While she wanted to pursue the case, she did not have any evidence against the man as he had deleted the videos.

She also called the police, but was told that it wasn’t against the law to “take photos of other people without their consent”.

His phone was confiscated for analysis, and Shu Yi was told that she would only have a case against him if he was found to have deleted “any incriminating photos”.
