Man arrested over statement supporting diplomatic ties between Malaysia, Israel
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a man over his statements supporting diplomatic ties between Malaysia and Israel.
Federal CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the individual who was known as Victor Yong, 36, was arrested following the statements he made.
“The statements were made in an interview with an Israeli social media influencer known only as Naftali.
“The interview was uploaded on the Malaysia Gazette TikTok,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 6).
He said the suspect was arrested in Johor Baru, and a remand order was obtained from the Magistrates Court there for three days.
“The CID Special Investigations Unit is investigating this case under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for making statements conducing to public mischief.
“We are also investigating the case for misuse of network facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act,” he said.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily advised the public not to speculate on or comment on the case as it could disturb investigations.
“We also urge the public to be prudent social media users and not use the platform for any acts which are against the law,” he said.
