Gigi Lai, 52, Says She Has “Never Thought About Acting Again” After Meetup With TVB Exec Virginia Lok Sparks Comeback Rumours
Nope, she’s not following in the footsteps of fellow former TVB actresses Charmaine Sheh and Tavia Yeung.
Nope, she’s not following in the footsteps of fellow former TVB actresses Charmaine Sheh and Tavia Yeung.
With Charmaine Sheh returning to TVB with two dramas The Queen of News and The Heir to the Throne and Tavia Yeung now filming Black Moonlight, people are starting to see hope for past TVB A-listers to make their TVB comeback.
Rumour had it that Gigi Lai was the next in line to make her small screen return after TVB’s assistant general manager Virginia Lok shared a selfie of them taken during a recent catch-up.
Turned out, it was just wishful thinking.
When asked about the rumour at an event, Gigi, 52, revealed that she has “never thought about acting again”.
“I think I would leave these things up to fate. My schedule is already packed with work and taking care of my children. I’ll only think about [going back to acting] at a later time,” she added.
Gigi and her husband, billionaire businessman Patrick Ma Ting Kung, have three daughters — twins Patricia and Gianna, 14, and Pegella, 12.
When asked if Virginia had asked her to make at least a cameo in upcoming dramas, Gigi shared that it was her showbiz pals instead who were the ones asking her to make guest appearances.
Since Gigi is now the CEO of a beauty empire, she was asked if she would consider acting if TVB were to produce a drama titled “Queen of Beauty”.
She laughed and said: “I think I really need to look at the script and my schedule”.
Well, at least Gigi admitted she still loves acting and that she misses the days on set with her ex-colleagues.
“We were all very happy when we worked together. Right now, I’m really too busy with work and my personal life. I understand that when I start filming, I will need to put in a lot of time and effort into the role. If I were to focus entirely on that, I’m worried I would end up neglecting my work and family,” she said.
