Mahkota polls: Muda, Pejuang playing active roles to support Perikatan, says Azmin

KLUANG: Despite their decision to sit out the Mahkota polls, Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) are still involved in the by-election through their support for Perikatan Nasional, says Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

The Bersatu supreme council member said Muda’s support would help Perikatan in drawing votes from young voters, which make up more than half of the Mahkota electorate.

“Muda is here. They told me that they wanted to help out in the election. So, I am very grateful.

“Since about 52% of the people here are young, Muda’s role will be very important. They brought strong appeal among the youths.

“So, the fact that they are here tonight shows a good message that they will help us in the election,” he told reporters when met during a Perikatan ceramah here.

Several Muda members were present during the ceramah here on Wednesday (Sept 18) night.

Azmin added that he would also be heading to Muda acting-president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz’s wedding on Saturday (Sept 21).

“On Saturday, I will be travelling down to Johor Baru to attend Amira’s wedding reception.

“Let her have a few days for a honeymoon, then hopefully, Muda will continue helping us in Mahkota,” he said.

When asked if Muda will be joining Perikatan, he said that it will be discussed after the Mahkota by-election.

He added that Pejuang and its president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, have also thrown their support to Perikatan and expressed their willingness to assist in the election.

“Mukhriz and the team were here one day before the nomination day. They also have an influence in Johor and it looks like they are ready to help us.

“This shows that Perikatan is ready to take the lead to gather all these forces and make sure that we put a formidable force,” he said.
