Lee Chong Wei to be the first Malaysian Athlete Wax Figure in Madame Tussauds Hong Kong!
When we talked about the pride of Malaysia, I believe that the name ‘Lee Chong Wei’ will be the first to pop in Malaysian’s minds. With his achievements in the badminton field, even Malaysian who are not into sports are willing to stay up late just to watch him play. He has won 3 silver medals in the Olympic Games and he is also the sixth Malaysian to win an Olympics medal. In 2019, Lee Chong Wei officially announced his retirement and was subsequently appointed as the head of the Malaysian delegation to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Out of the blue, Lee Chong Wei (Lee Chong Wei 李宗伟) announced on his Facebook today that, he will be the first Malaysian Athlete Wax Figure in Madame Tussauds Hong Kong.
In his own words:
“I would never have imagined a wax figure of my own! Thank you @madametussaudshongkong for the privilege and I’m extremely honored to be the first Malaysian sportsman to join the list. Special shout-out to the Madame Tussauds Hong Kong team who were extremely patient and detailed during the detailing session. It was definitely a first for me!
Fingers crossed, my wax figure will be unveiled in the second quarter of 2020.”
Within a few hours, this post has received more than 5,000 likes, 300 comments, and over 200 shares. Same as Lee Chong Wei, netizens are very excited upon receiving this good news. The post also received many positive feedbacks from netizens, where they showed their support towards Lee Chong Wei by expressing their joy for him and by congratulating him in the comment section. They mentioned in the comment that Malaysia is very lucky to have Lee Chong Wei and that Lee Chong Wei truly deserved this honor after seeing his achievements.
