Marie Kondo’s 5 Tips for Organizing Your Messy Bedroom

Marie Kondo’s 5 Tips for Organizing Your Messy Bedroom

Stuck at home because of the Movement Control Order (MCO)? Feeling anxious facing your messy home and bedroom? Here are some tips from Marie Kondo, a Japanese decluttering guru.

Marie Kondo, also known as Konmari, is a Japanese organizing consultant who introduces the KonMari method. Her KonMari method is a system of organizing your home by getting rid of items that no longer bring joy in your life.  When you have a clean and organized space, you will definitely perform better in many ways!

TIPS 1: Be thankful

The KonMari Method is grounded in gratitude. Be thankful to your home and space for giving you shelter! Remind yourself you are grateful to have a cosy space to rest. It may sound odd, but give it a try!

TIPS 2: Tidying Clothes by Keeping Those That Sparks Joy

Your closet might be filled with clothes and it is time to decide whether to keep them.

Begin by taking out all clothes from your closet so you can see all of them. Pick them up one by one and decide whether to keep or give them away.

Ask yourself, does this item spark joy? If the answer is yes, then keep it. If it doesn’t, be thankful for everything it has done for you and move them to discard pile.

Feel guilty for giving away nice jeans? It can hold you back from tidying. Try to be thankful for the item instead. Be thankful for that jean that helps you look good once.

TIPS 3: Wash Your Bedsheets Weekly

A clean room is a happy room! Marie Kondo explains this in her best-selling book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.

If you rent your room and have no choice but to stay in your room during MCO, you might spend most of your time in your bed. Your bedsheets and blankets get dirty very quickly, so make a habit to wash them weekly!

Fresh bedsheets and pillowcases make you feel happy and keep you in a good mood.

TIPS 4: Arrange Stuff By Colours

Like Marie says, “the greatest change that occurs through tidying is that you will learn to like yourself.” It is the art to know, to like, and to enjoy yourself. The KonMari Method gave me, a very tired mother, my energy back and all the space I needed to be more of the parent I wished to be for my daughter." Marie Kondo suggests organizing your stuffs by colours, whether books, clothes or your shoes. Believe me, this will look super cool and inspire you to keep them tidy.

TIPS 5: Organize By Category

Gather all items that belong to the same category and discard those that no longer spark joy and organize what is left. Try to use clear bins so you can see what is inside and remember to use them.

You can avoid tangled cables and cords by using storage like this!

Tidying completely is tiring, but it will be worth the effort! 😀
