Yu Zheng Who Casted Michelle Chen in His Condor Heroes Remake Regrets Missing Out on Angelababy
Yu Zheng makes it back on the trending list AGAIN this week after making known the missed opportunity of casting Angelababy for his 2014 remake Romance of the Condor Heroes. I guess seeing Angelababy’s recent appearance in a variety show wearing a xiao long nu costume must’ve put Yu Zheng in quite a reflective mood.
The controversial producer lived up to his reputation when he shared a now deleted post of a costumed Angelababy captioned “if only you hadn’t gotten sick and appeared in my Romance of the Condor Heroes, I wouldn’t be ridiculed by everyone ~ one of the biggest regrets in my life @ Angelababy”. Now this here’s an interesting statement don’t you think? Considering how vocal he’s been in the past to defend the choice of Michelle Chen as his. In fact he even wrote a couple of posts in social media about it, bluntly saying that he was 100% satisfied with his choice and that he had “no regrets” when casting her for the role caused a huge controversy regarding her unsuitability back in 2013.
In recent years however, Yu Zheng appears to have aired some regrets, revealing that Michelle wasn’t actually his first choice. In fact wasn’t too long ago that he hinted the only reason why Michelle got picked was because the male lead in the drama Chen Xiao liked her and wanted to do the drama with her. But that’s all water under the bridge now that the drama’s all done and dusted and that the two co-stars are happily married.
As to his post, I reckon Yu Zheng either realised what he said wasn’t very nice or the backlash for taking an indirect shot at Michelle got to him because his original post has now been deleted and replaced with a new one – “I’m just sounding off. I didn’t have any intention of dissing anyone. Who doesn’t love a beauty? Is it wrong to appreciate when you see a gorgeous model? Oh please. I’ll try to keep my mouth shut from now on. But I guess that’s almost next to impossible. I’ll just try to keep a low profile first! PS. Is everyone insane? I share about what I’m feeling at the moment on Weibo, if it feels inappropriate I’ll delete it. Why are there so many actors in this? Do you think I wanna find myself on the trending list again? Cut!” writes the producer.
