YouTube Sensation S. Pavithra Is This Year’s Ipoh City Iconjessie tan
S. Pavithra has been selected as this year’s Ipoh City Icon by the Ipoh City Council (MBI).
Ipoh mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin explained that Pavithra was chosen as she was born in Buntong. The 28-year-old Malaysian is among the 10 individuals who have been selected by the committee.
Since conquering the YouTube sphere, this talented cook has not only caught the attention of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (who gifted her with a camera tripod, microwave oven, rice cooker and cooking utensils), but has secured the Silver Play Button. Currently at 779k subscribers, she’s on her way to achieve the Gold Play Button (when she hits 1 million subscribers).
“We will accord recognition to every Ipoh-born, like Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh previously. MBI is honest in its recognition of Pavithra because she is well known and many are now following their cooking recipes,” Rumaizi said during a press conference yesterday (Monday, 20th July).
The mayor added, “The 32nd Ipoh City Day celebration this year cannot be held due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so we will award them officially at next year’s celebration.”
For those curious, the Ipoh City Icons are selected from various backgrounds including entrepreneurs, artists, civil service workers and teachers.
