Netflix Is Doing Its First Aussie Reality TV Show And It’s About Byron Bay Influencers

Netflix is breaking ground in Australia with its first reality TV series made in the country.

What better topic to focus on than influencers lapping up the chilled and dreamy life of Byron Bay?

The streaming service is cooking up what they call a docu-soap about the idyllic town in far northern New South Wales.

Titled Byron Baes, the reality TV series sounds like it will follow a bunch of influencers and delve into their lives and all the drama that follows. Think an Australian version of The Hills but more boho chic with a tinge of anti-vaxx.

Netflix’s director of content for Australia and New Zealand, Que Minh Luu, said in a statement: “You’ve got this cabal, or live feed as we’ve been calling it, of Instagrammers, who all live up in Byron, and there are a lot of them.

“And we’re following them as they’re going about the hustle and finding love and happiness and the validation of the people around them and people online.”

There are some heavy hitters being brought in for the series and their CV shows they know how to capture drama in its purest form.

Emma Lamb will be executive producing Byron Baes and she’s previously worked on Married At First Sight and The Real Housewives Of Sydney. The programme will be made by Eureka Productions, who have been responsible for Holey Moley, The Voice Australia, The Amazing Race Australia, Farmer Wants A Wife, and plenty more.

Netflix has been kind enough to give everyone a synopsis of what we can expect from the show and it sounds like one hell of a ride.

A press release states: “It’s not just Chris and Zac’s backyard, it’s the playground of more celebrity-adjacent-adjacent influencers than you can poke a selfie stick at.

“But PLOT TWIST: Don’t write these Baes off too quickly. There’ll be fights, flings and heartbreak; but beneath every perfect post is a very real desire not just for ‘likes’, but to be liked, dammit, for who you are.”

We are already gagging for the show to start. The big question is who will be the influencers that are chosen to best represent the Byron Bay scene?
